Review and Moderation Policy

This page explains how reviews may be submitted, checked, moderated, published, or removed on Business Directory.

Purpose of reviews

Reviews are intended to help people understand real experiences with listed businesses. They should be honest, relevant, and based on genuine interaction or experience.

What reviewers should submit

Reviews should be:

  • based on real experience
  • fair and truthful
  • relevant to the business being reviewed
  • written in a way that other users can understand

What is not allowed

The following types of review content are not allowed:

  • fake, copied, bought, or coordinated reviews
  • reviews submitted on behalf of someone else without authority
  • abusive, hateful, threatening, or defamatory content
  • spam, promotional material, or irrelevant content
  • content intended only to manipulate ratings or visibility

Moderation process

Reviews may be checked automatically, manually, or both. Some reviews may be published quickly, while others may be delayed for moderation.

Moderation may consider factors such as rating, abuse signals, repetition, fraud-risk indicators, supporting proof information, and whether a review appears genuine.

Why a review may be delayed or restricted

A review may be delayed, limited, rejected, or removed where there is reason to believe it may be:

  • misleading or false
  • spam or abusive
  • part of coordinated manipulation
  • submitted in breach of platform rules
  • unsuitable for public display

Business responses

Where supported by the platform, business owners may be able to submit a response to a published review. A business response does not change the original rating or make the review automatically more or less valid.

Proof and supporting signals

The platform may use proof-related tags or internal signals to help understand whether a review appears supported or reliable. These checks exist to improve trust, but they do not guarantee that every review is perfect or complete.

Disputes and concerns

If a reviewer or business believes a review has been handled incorrectly, they may contact the platform for further review. Not every disagreement will lead to removal, especially where a review appears genuine and within the platform rules.

Relationship to other policies

Reviews must also comply with the Acceptable Use Policy and the Terms and Conditions.

Business ownership and control of profile features are covered separately in the Claims and Ownership Policy.
